The TB0436A is a SAW bandpass filter with a center frequency of 162 MHz, a 100 kHz bandwidth, and 3-6 dB of insertion loss. The filter pass band includes AIS channels A and B at 161.975 and 162.025 MHz.
In our experience, this filter improves the number of messages received for most AIS receivers, especially in urban areas, or high traffic areas. The insertion loss of the filter can impact range, though the impact can be negligible if reception was limited by the noise floor and out of band interference.
This filter is particularly effective for receivers and amplifiers with no SAW filter before the first amplification stage, like dAISy Mini, dAISy FeatherWing, dAISy Original, and Uputronics 162MHz preamplifier. It is also a great complement to SDR receivers.
Note that the Long-range AIS channels (156.775 and 156.825 MHz) are outside the passband of this filter.
